Corporate gifts for clients: what really works and what already feels tired

Just open a drawer in any office and you will uncover a small archaeology of corporate marketing. Three pens, a charging cable of unknown origin, a notepad bearing the logo of a company you stopped working with five years ago, and a USB stick with a capacity that now seems almost historical.

None of this is exactly bad. It’s just that most of these things never had a chance of becoming a gift. They were promotional items from the very first second.

A good corporate gift starts somewhere else. With the question: would I want to receive this even without the logo?

Gifts with value of their own

Good chocolate is good chocolate. A beautiful book is a beautiful book. Quality wine is quality wine. A company’s brand can add to their value, but it doesn’t have to create it.

This is one of the most reliable differences between a gift and a promotional item.

When a product stands on its own, the company gains the luxury of being discreet. It doesn’t need to cover the whole item with its logo, because the recipient already has a reason to keep it.

What is genuinely original today

Originality doesn’t mean inventing something nobody has ever seen at any cost. Sometimes it is far more modern to take a traditional thing and do it exceptionally well.

Wine is a typical example. It is not a new corporate gift. But a bottle chosen from a specific winemaker, complemented by a subtle thank-you and wrapped with care can feel much more contemporary than a tech gadget nobody needs.

Originality can lie in the story. In the client’s name. In a limited edition. In a small illustration that refers to a shared project. In a sentence that only the people on both sides of the partnership understand.

Luxury is often the absence of the unnecessary

Corporate gifting sometimes suffers from a need to prove value. A wooden box gets added, then a ribbon, filling, a card, a paper bag, a brochure and, on top of it all, a “premium” sticker.

Yet a truly well-designed gift can be much simpler.

One bottle. A beautiful label. The recipient’s name in small print. The words “Thank you”. Done.

Luxury rarely needs to describe itself.

An employee is not a client

Companies often prepare one universal gift for everyone. It is logistically easy, but a little lazy on the human side.

An employee may appreciate a different kind of message than a client. For them, what matters is a thank-you for the year together, for their performance, for being part of the team. For a client, on the other hand, it makes sense to recall a shared project, trust or partnership.

The same bottle can carry two different meanings thanks to just a few words.

Gifts as part of company culture

The way a company gives gifts says something about its character. Is it meticulous? Does it have a sense of humour? Is it local? Does it care about design? Can it be personal?

All of this can be expressed through a single object.

That is why the best corporate gifts are not “merch”. They are a small piece of company culture you can hold in your hand.

What we would happily leave in the past

Anything that exists primarily so that a logo can be put on it.

If an item makes no sense without branding, there should be a very good reason for making it.

At a time when companies talk about sustainability and thoughtful consumption, a drawer overflowing with promotional items is fairly honest feedback.

So perhaps there is no need to give more.

Perhaps it is enough to give better.

Good to know

  • How do I recognise a good corporate gift? It should have value of its own even without the company logo, and it should suit the person you are giving it to.
  • Does an original gift have to be unusual? No. Even a traditional product can be original if it has quality content, good design and a personal context.
  • Is it appropriate to give employees and clients the same gift? It can be the same product, but ideally with a different message and personalisation tailored to the relationship.

What makes a good corporate gift today?

Useful, high-quality, aesthetically pleasing, appropriately personal and without excessive branding. It is the last point that tends to be underestimated.

Why are ordinary promotional items no longer working?

They are interchangeable. The same gift can be ordered from hundreds of suppliers with only the logo changed. Stronger gifts have a story — a region, a project, an event or the company’s personality.

Is wine still an original gift?

Not in itself any more. What makes it original is the way it is done: limited personalisation, unusual packaging, a series of your own or the story of a specific winemaker.

The biggest mistake?

Trying to show off the company at any cost. A gift is not a billboard. If it is good, the brand will be remembered naturally.

Adults only

Wine, yes. But only from eighteen.

Before we let you browse the bottles, one small thing: please confirm that you are at least 18.

Alcohol may not be sold to minors.

Taste first.

Then order with confidence.

Taste before you decide

A difficult choice? We’ll send you the evidence.

Not sure which wine is the right one? Order samples and taste them at your leisure.

A fair warning: a sample is a small amount of wine with a surprisingly strong ability to trigger an order.

Sometimes a case.

Sometimes several cases.

And sometimes, quite innocently, someone starts talking about a pallet.
